>reading space < I spent some weeks in beppu on kyushu-island in japan at the waku-waku apartment which was part of the contemporary art festival in 2009 and a gathering and working space for young artists. I found out in discussions that young japanese artists lack reading and discussing experience. so i tried to motivate an inner discussion with the reading space - a loose collection of texts about artists groups in the 1960s and 1970s in japan. i wanted to draw a line between what has already made and thought and our current artistic actions. the work was mainly backed by a text written by reiko tomii in "collectivism after modernism". reiko then provided other texts in japanese. the work was open for any kind of additions or interventions by the artists. |
